
Nearly 450 Iowa farm families, including 29 in the KCII-listening area were recognized as Heritage or Century Farms at the Iowa State Fair last week.
Those in Washington County include farms owned by: Kevin Flynn, Marjorie Jones, Stanley and Deborah McCreedy, JD and Sue Wollrab, and two farms owned by Arthur and Ada Potratz.
The two in Louisa County are owned by Rodney and Kim Davis and John Padgett .
Keokuk County had seven recognized, including farms owned by: Russell Capps, Michael and Kim Gregan, John Grove, Michael Herman, Richard Kessler, Eugene and Maryetta Sankenberg, and Nickolas Wehr.
The one farm from Henry County was Janice Fitzpatrick and it is a heritage farm.
Johnson County had five farms recognized: Olivia and Joshua Beck, Joyce Campbell, Verne and Joyce Hosek, and two owned by Nickolas Spurgeon.
Iowa County had eight listed: David Dermody, Dwight and Peg Gildemeister, Larry and Joyce Melsa, David and Lea Montross, Richard Peirce, Edward Pundt, Earl Wichmann, and the Sayers family.
For Heritage farms, the farm must have been in the owner’s family for at least 150 years, while for Century farms, it must have been in the family for at least 100 years. In either case, the land must be at least 40 acres in area.
The families were recognized at a ceremony on Thursday in the Pioneer Livestock Pavilion at the state fairgrounds.
