Three local artists took first place in creative arts and crafts competitions at the state fair last week, including a best of show winner from Columbus Junction.

Henrietta Stogdill took best in show while winning the multi media category at the fair. Also taking first place in creative arts categories were Michael Kast of Kalona, who won leather apparel, leather craft, non-wood carved items and holiday decoration, and Paula Altmaier of Riverside took first place in handmade beads and pendants while taking second in non-jewelry bead work and third in needle-constructed jewelry.
