At KCII we’re counting down the top 10 biggest stories in area high school sports for the 2024-2025 academic year. At number two is WACO wrestler Louden Huisenga winning a state championship in his weight class.

Huisenga has been of the most dominant wrestlers in the area over the last three years, and he very nearly brought home a state title in 2024 but would lose the Class 1A championship bout at 190 pounds. The stage was set for a redemption tour, and the Warrior senior was determined to come out on top in his final season.

Huisenga would do more than that, going undefeated at 190 on his way to winning Southeast Iowa Super Conference and district championships. Once at the state tournament in Des Moines, Huisenga would win a 7-2 decision and a 17-5 major decision to get back to the Class 1A semifinals.

Huisenga would edge out Jayden Dickerson of Shenadoah in a 4-3 decision in the semis, and while the perfect season came down to another close bout in the title match with Gatlin Rogers of Wilton, Huisenga triumphed in a 7-6 decision to reach 42-0 and earn a state title.
