
The Hillcrest Academy Raven baseball team completed a Southeast Iowa Superconference North Division Championship three-peat and took the program to state this summer, posting big numbers during the season. The Ravens ranked among the top 10 of Class 1A in six different categories.
Collectively, the Ravens hung their hats on pitching and defense. They finished third in 1A as a staff, allowing just 67 walks. Their 1.19 group WHIP was 10th best in Iowa. The Hillcrest defense had a 94% fielding percentage, also 10th in 1A.
Individually, Senior Seth Ours had a microscopic WHIP of 0.68, third best in Class 1A. Senior Liam Schrock finished fourth in Iowa, issuing just five walks from the mound, and in the field, junior Rowan Miller finished 10th with 51 defensive assists.
The Ravens ended the year at the State Tournament in Carroll for the first time since 2008, advancing to the 1A semifinals with an 18-8 overall record.
