
Crews responded to a fuel leak on Highway 218 Monday morning that led to the spillage of over 200 gallons of diesel.
At 10:41 a.m. on Monday, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from a truck driver saying he had hit something and was leaking fuel on the Highway 218 ramp near Ainsworth. By the time crews arrived on the scene, the semi had already leaked over 200 gallons of diesel fuel.
Along with the sheriff’s office, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the Iowa Department of Transportation, and the Ainsworth Fire Department responded to the scene.
The DNR encourages anyone who witnesses or finds a spill to report it by calling their hotline at 515-725-8694.
