At KCII we’re counting down the top 10 biggest stories in area high school sports for the 2024-2025 academic year. At number three is Highland Huskies girls’ golf finishing top four in the state for a second straight year.

Highland’s first-ever trip to the Class 1A state championships in 2024 capped a dominant year where they won the team scoring portion of every event they played but one leading up to state, but it was made even better by the Huskies taking third as a team in Marshalltown. But they would come back for more this past spring.

Highland would again win all but one event during the regular season, including bringing home a second straight Southeast Iowa Super Conference championship.

The Huskies had a terrific top-line group of golfers, as junior Adisyn Prottsman led the team in scoring and was joined by senior Adeline Krotz, freshman Josyln Prottsman and junior Emersyn Schultz in having cumulative average scores of 54 strokes or better.

Highland would start the postseason by winning the Class 1A Region 4C tournament May 16th at Sigourney Golf Club. A team score of 346 strokes was more than 30 better than second-place BGM, with Schultz and Krotz leading the way by each shooting an 11-over-par 81.

At the 1A Region 4 finals at Prairie Knolls Country Club in New Sharon five days later, a 14-over 86 from Adisyn Prottsman and an 89 by Schultz powered the Huskies to runner-up status and a return ticket to state.

Highland would again play outstanding at American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown when the state tournament began May 29th, racing out to fourth place after Day One and staying right there with combined team scores of 368 strokes each day.

Schultz led the way for the Huskies by finishing sixth overall. The junior shot a six-over 77 on Day One and was 24 over in total for the tournament. Prottsman would also make the top 15 by finishing at 33 over across both days.
