
A Washington man has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon after intentionally driving his car into a truck on Highway 1 on Sunday. According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the collision occurred at 10:53 a.m. in the 2700 block of Highway 1, about three miles south of Washington. Authorities charged Kevin Pape of Washington with assault with a dangerous weapon vehicle without injury, careless driving, and reckless driving.
According to the sheriff’s office, Pape was southbound on Highway 1 and a truck with an enclosed livestock trailer driven by Travis Kleese was northbound. The Chevrolet Impala driven by Pape crossed the centerline and purposely drove towards the truck. Kleese took evasive action, and the car struck the axle area of the trailer.
The car went into the ditch and hit a powerline pole. The car was totaled. The trailer sustained damage.
There were five people in the truck. Officials stated that Pape did not know any of the five people.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Washington Police Department, Washington County Conservation, Washington County Ambulance, Washington County Rescue, Washington Fire Department, Washington QRS, and Moore’s Towing.
