A $3.5 million grant was awarded to build a field house for the Washington Community School District. The grant was the largest given at the Washington County Riverboat Foundation spring grant cycle in May.

An anonymous donor also gave $4 million to the district’s athletic booster club earlier this year for this project. The project’s fundraising total is up to nearly $7.65 million, when grouped with the initial $4 million gift, the WCRF grant, a handful of private donations, and a $30,000 commitment from the Washington Betterment Foundation.

Washington Activities Director Nathan Miller said that fundraising for the project will continue this year, “We have the ongoing indoor facility project that we are raising funds for and capital for, and so, that will continue through this year as we work through that process in raising the remaining funds for that. Our booster club and our local community are huge in their support with allowing us and supporting us to do some of these projects. Without them, many of these projects would not be possible.”

The total price of the project is estimated between $9 and $10 million. Construction would begin tentatively in spring of 2027, if the funds are secured. Plans for the field house proposed layouts featuring a 60-yard indoor football turf, eight 45-meter sprinting lanes, a 3,200 square-foot weight room and a golf simulator room, among other amenities.

The field house will be located North of the High School.
