The Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation District is receiving $53,398.31 to protect and enhance Pleasant Lake, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship announced.
Pleasant Lake was one of eight publicly owned lakes around Iowa to be included in the cost-sharing program. The program operates in conjunction with the Department of Natural Resources.
The cost share program is designed to help private landowners with conservation practices such as cover crops, water and sediment control basins, grassed waterways, terraces, and grade stabilization structures. The program’s goal is to prevent outside nutrients and sediment from entering public lakes throughout the state.
The specific projects and processes will be determined by the conservation district and local property owners.
