Two crashes with injuries took place in Washington County Monday morning, with one individual transported to the hospital for treatment.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 10:50 a.m., dispatch received a call of a two-vehicle crash with injuries and partial entrapment at the corner of 5th and E Streets in Kalona.

Tammie Knerr of Kalona was travelling westbound on E Street when David Jennings of Williamsburg, who was previously stopped at a stop sign, pulled into the intersection, crossed the centerline, and struck Knerr’s SUV on the front driver’s side.

One person was partially entrapped, removed from the vehicle by crews, and transported by ambulance to the University of Iowa Emergency Room.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the Washington County Ambulance Service, Kalona Fire Chief, Kalona Fire Department, Kalona QRS, and Bulltown Towing responded to the scene.

Knerr’s vehicle was towed, while Jennings’ had minimal damage.

No citations were issued at the scene.

Earlier that day, at approximately 9:05 a.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to a call at 2130 Tulip  Avenue northeast of Washington for a single-vehicle rollover crash with minor injuries.

Bajori Conda of Coralville, an Amazon delivery driver, was travelling northbound on Tulip Avenue and crossed the center of the gravel road. Conda overcorrected, entered the ditch, and rolled to a stop facing southbound. Conda sustained an injury to the hand.

According to the Sheriff’s Office Conda said that they had fallen asleep, which led to the accident.

  1. The vehicle was totaled and towed by Bulltown towing, no citations were issued.
