At KCII we’re counting down the top 10 biggest stories in Washington High School sports for the 2024-2025 academic year. At number eight is the boys’ golf team winning the conference championship for a third straight year.
Coming off not only back-to-back Southeast Conference titles but also a second trip to the state championships as a team in three years during the 2024 season, Washington again had plenty of success on the golf course this spring.
The Demons won their six conference meets with team scores of 161 strokes or lower before taking the 18-hole Southeast Conference Tournament that they hosted as well, finishing with a score of 316 that was 26 strokes less than second-place Fort Madison.
While they would come up just short of a fourth straight sectional title as a team, Washington did finish second and advanced to Class 3A districts yet again.
Drew Conrad would be the team’s low scorer, averaging less than 39 strokes in nine-hole events and a five-over 77 in 18-hole meets on his way to four individual victories, while fellow junior Carson Brown was second in cumulative average score with just over 42 strokes and was a winner in one conference meet.
Senior Cole Vetter would come away with the individual Southeast Conference Tournament title by shooting a career-best, two-over-par 72 at Washington Golf & Country Club, joining Brown, Conrad and senior Conner Leyden in earning all-conference honors.
