The fourth biggest sports story at Mid-Prairie from the most recent year shines a spotlight on the Golden Hawk Archery Club. After a successful regular season, Mid-Prairie sent 60 Golden Hawks to the state competition in Des Moines. They included Eli Conrad, Jacob Debler, Averi Janecek, Kyla Karnes, Nickolas Kelley, Landon Kuenster, Ava Miller, Morgyn Nafziger, Johnathon Pickard, Emma Poock, Sophia Puttmann, Lael Seale, Madelyn Sieren, Elijah Statler, Harlee West, Allie Whetstine, Stella Janecek, Jaiden Lara, Madilynn Liska, Caitlyn Peters, Cooper Schilling, Skylar Swift, Liana Wade, Caitlyn Yoder, Landon Allen, Kylee Berry, Lara Brenneman, Mya Brenneman, Levi Coblentz, Noah Coblentz, Preston Ford, Brooklynn Liska, Levi Luers, Beckett Miller, Samuel Newton, Nickolas Peck, Braxton Ropp, Mason Schneider, Joshua Seale, Monica Beachy, Declan Brady, Silas Cable, Kinnick Carroll, Stetson Cole, Beniah Fulton, Easton Gorsch, Reese Herteen, Aven Jaspering, Zayley Jaspering, Tessa Luers, Easton Miller, Nolan Mohling, Lane Norman, Mackenzie O’Brien, Jenna Puttmann, Ellie Rand, Ruby Regenwether, Brielle Robertson, Sam Troyer, Lane Janecek, Bryce Miller and Claire O’Connor.
At state, the Golden Hawks qualified for Nationals in high school 3D finishing 3rd of 29 schools, led by an individual state title for freshman Lael Seale. The middle school Hawks qualified their bullseye team for Nationals after placing seventh of 27 schools. At Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky, the high school 3D team was 22nd of 162 schools with Johnathan Pickard finishing No. 9 in the US for the boys and Sophia Puttmann 39th in the country for the girls. In block, the high schoolers were 43rd of 265 teams with Landon Kuenster leading the boys placing 28th in the country and Avery Janecek best for the girls at 98th in the US. For the middle school at Nationals, they placed 100th of 252 schools in block. Noah Coblentz finished 10th in the United States for the boys and Makenzie O’Brien was 936th in the US to lead the girls.
Forty-seven members of this year’s Golden Hawk Archery Club were named Academic Archers by the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). Our countdown continues Wednesday for Mid-Prairie on the volleyball court.
