The next step in the Highway 92, East Washington Street and 12th Avenue traffic signal project in Washington has been started.

The road was made one lane both ways in front of the UP Home last week as crews worked to install the stoplights. Electrical work will continue on the lights this week.

The project was awarded to Kline Electric, Inc. based out of Des Moines in January. The price of the project is $227,600.25 which was below the estimate for the project. The road will eventually be converted from the current four-lane road into a three-lane road.  The Iowa Department of Transportation previously converted the western half of Highway 92 in city limits into a three-lane section; this would complete the three-lane conversion through the City of Washington.
