Final numbers have been released for the Washington County Fair’s 4-H/FFA Livestock Auction.

Keith Murphy, Dwight Duwa, Brayton Turner, Matt McWhirter, and Riley Sieren, as well as clerk Jean Wehr, helped 161 youth sell 296 lots to 75 unique buyers. Those buyers included both individuals and local businesses. The funds raised from the auctions go directly to the students who raised the animals.

According to Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, livestock projects like the ones sold at the auction produce about 17 million pounds of meat.

The auction was held at the conclusion of the Washington County Fair on Friday July 18 beginning at 8:30 a.m.
