This summer was one of the best in Washington Demon softball history, reaching the state tournament for the first time in over a decade and winning the program’s first conference championship in seven years. Washington has been rewarded for their efforts with eight total all-conference selections and five first-team choices.

That group includes shortstop Leighton Salazar, who not only makes it back on the first team once again, but she is also named the Southeast Conference Player of the Year for a third straight season.

The junior rewrote the record books for the Demons once again with team highs of a .522 batting average, a state-high 72 total hits, 59 runs scored and 54 stolen bases. Salazar also came up with a conference-leading 15 doubles and racked up 34 runs batted in.

Senior Ella Greiner also makes the first team after joining Salazar near the top of the conference statistically, batting .463 with 10 doubles, three home runs, 46 runs scored and a team-high 46 RBI.

Sophomore Colbie Greiner had a career-best season for Washington on her way to first-team honors, hitting nearly .400 with 13 doubles, five homers and 41 runs driven in.

Senior Alyvia Anderson was a steady presence at catcher with only seven errors behind the plate and again swung the bat well with a .341 average, 10 doubles, two home runs and 30 RBI en route to a first-team selection.

Pitcher Isabella Salazar rounds out the first-team honorees for the Demons after posting a 15-5 record, a 2.93 earned-run average and 99 strikeouts in nearly 115 innings of work. The senior was also a force with the bat, hitting nearly .350 with 28 runs batted in.

Senior Halle Cuddeback is a second-team choice after an excellent pitching season, finishing with a 7-1 record and a 2.69 ERA, but she also came up with 10 doubles, one home run and 25 runs scored in the lineup.

Honorable mentions go to freshmen Makenzie Messer and Natalie Hartman, who helped round out the lineup by scoring a combined 45 runs for a Washington team that finished with a record of 29-11 and only lost one conference game.

The Demons also had five academic all-conference selections in Cuddeback, Anderson, Ella Greiner and Bella and Leighton Salazar.
