A severe thunderstorm swept across Iowa early Tuesday morning. According to the National Weather Service, some areas of eastern Iowa had wind gusts of 40 miles per hour that lasted for 20-30 minutes. 

Heavy rain was reported at the Washington Municipal Airport during the 3 a.m. hour. Washington received approximately half an inch of rain. Ainsworth had sustained winds of 35 miles per hour. A wind gust was recorded at 63 miles per hour in Iowa City.

In Sigourney, at 3 a.m. a branch approximately six-inches in diameter was broken off of a tree in the storm.
