Washington County Hospital and Clinics will be offering a Parkinson’s support group.
The SPEAK OUT! Parkinson’s Support Group is a monthly program designed to help individuals with Parkinson’s disease strengthen their voice, improve communication, and connect with others in a welcoming, supportive setting. This group is based on the SPEAK OUT! program developed by the Parkinson Voice Project. The approach focuses on teaching participants to speak with intent, and helping to preserve speech and swallowing abilities commonly affected by Parkinson’s.
This group is open to individuals with Parkinson’s disease who have completed the SPEAK OUT! therapy program or have a referral from their provider. The group will meet the last Wednesday of each month. Caregivers are welcome to attend as well. Interested participants can contact WCHC for more information.
According to the Parkinson’s Foundation, an estimated 1.1 million people in the U.S. are living with Parkinson’s disease.
