
The Washington Police Department arrested a subject on a third degree burglary charge, a class D felony, on Monday.
According to court documents, 59-year-old Henry Yates of Washington was arrested after allegedly stealing jewelry from a neighbor in an apartment building.
On June 25th, the victim reported property and jewelry missing from her apartment. That residence had a fire take place on June 16th causing tenants to vacate for a period of time.
Yates is a tenant who was also living in the building. It was reported that Yates had access to the main building after the fire to take care of the grounds. It was also reported that Yates gave some jewelry to a third party. The third party then reached out to the victim asking if it was hers and she stated it was. The victim reported that they were still missing the majority of the jewelry and other property. The third party was interviewed and admitted he was given some of the stolen jewelry by Yates.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for August 1st.
