
Iowa’s farmers had 4.3 days suitable for fieldwork last week due to weather conditions. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig stated that with the statewide average rainfall above normal parts of the state are particularly wet, “Unfortunately, saturated soils and increased streamflow have led to localized issues with standing water and flash flooding in some areas.”
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture corn in the state is one day behind last year with 62% silking. In southeast Iowa, 71% of corn is silking and 13% has reached the dough stage.
Statewide soybeans are one day behind the five-year average with 69% bloomed. In southeast Iowa soybeans are tracking ahead of those figures with 74% of soybeans blooming and 44% are setting pods.
