The Columbus Wildcats had a very successful summer on the softball diamond, finishing with better than a losing record for the second time in three years but also just the second time since 2015.

Now, six players who helped them battle their way through a deep North division in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference are being recognized for their excellent performances this season with all-conference honors.

That includes Ellie Sanders, who is a unanimous first-team choice at infielder. The sophomore had a .494 batting average, scored 28 runs and nabbed 24 stolen bases as Columbus’ lead-off hitter.

Lily Coil also earns another first-team All-Super Conference North nod to wrap up her brilliant career, and the senior was at her best in her final season.

Coil led the conference and was top 10 in the state with a .537 average at the plate, collecting 15 doubles, three triples, three home runs, 38 runs batted in and 31 runs scored. Coil also pitched over 70 innings for the Wildcats and had a 2.59 earned-run average and a team-high 70 strikeouts.

Kennedy Woepking earns a second-team selection at catcher after hitting .359 with eight doubles, four homers and 32 RBI, but she was also Columbus’ top pitcher with a 2.25 ERA and 61 strikeouts in nearly 75 innings in the circle.

Junior Daniela Diaz makes the second-team infield after scoring a team-high 32 runs and batting .329 with four doubles, one triple and one home run. Honorable mentions go to junior Jessica Del Rio and eighth-grader Jacqueline Farrier, who played key parts in helping the ‘Cats go 12-12 and win seven conference games.
