
Washington County experienced a slight increase in unemployment from May to June according to recent data from Iowa Workforce Development. In June Washington County’s unemployment rate was 2.9%, up from 2.6% in May. In addition, it is an increase from June of last year when the rate was 2.3% unemployment.
Statewide, the unemployment rate was 4.1% in June – the same rate as it was a year ago.
Across Iowa, Marshall County has the highest unemployment rate at 6.2%. Meanwhile, Sioux County has the lowest at 2.4% unemployment.
When comparing June of 2024 to June of this year, only four counties in Iowa experienced decreases in unemployment: Jefferson, Iowa, Sac, and Adair. The other 95 counties all experienced increases in unemployment rates.
