The Washington Demons fell to defending state champion Williamsburg in the Class 3A state softball quarterfinals by a final score of 7 to 2 yesterday at the Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge.
Washington bounced back after allowing two runs to Williamsburg in the second inning when senior Ella Greiner came up with a two-out single in the third and sophomore Colbie Greiner walloped a home run to left field in the next at-bat to tie the game.
Unfortunately, the Raiders would answer with a run in the fourth to go back in front, and while the Demons kept the game close most of the way, four runs in the sixth would give Williamsburg the definitive edge. Ella Greiner finished with two total hits but Washington had just four as a team as their record falls to 29-10.
The Demons will finish up the season by playing in a state tournament consolation game this morning against Estherville Lincoln Central. You can hear Washington softball on KCII starting with pregame coverage this morning at 9:30.
