The Highland Huskies came up short to number-one-ranked Wayne in the Class 1A state quarterfinals yesterday, suffering a 7-4 loss at the Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge.
Highland gave up two runs in the first inning to Wayne, but they would get a double by freshman Kamryn Fink in the top of the third to spark a rally. Base hits by senior Lilly Barre and eighth-grader Adley Sweeting brought home the first run of the game, and a two-run double by junior Adisyn Prottsman gave the Huskies the lead.
Unfortunately, the Falcons came right back in the bottom of the third with a pair of runs to go in front 4-3, and they would add two more runs in the fourth and one in the sixth. Fink would score after getting a lead-off single in the seventh, but Highland would not come all the way back.
Fink finished with three total hits and Sweeting collected a pair of knocks, but the Huskies still have their eight-game win streak come to a close as they drop to a record of 17-10.
Highland wraps up the 2025 season by playing in a Class 1A state tournament consolation game against Newell-Fonda this afternoon. You can hear the Huskies take on the Mustangs starting with pregame coverage at 12:15 in the KCII3 feed streaming on KCIIradio.com and the KCII3 app.
