lone-tree-3

The Lone Tree Lions were among the more successful softball teams in the area this summer, and seven players who propelled them to a second-place finish in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference have earned all-conference selections.

That includes Vivian Zaruba, who is a unanimous first-team choice at outfielder after posting a .412 batting average and team highs of 28 hits, 27 runs scored and 24 stolen bases.

Fellow senior Alex Dautremont also makes the first team on the infield after leading Lone Tree with a .426 average at the plate and finishing with 14 runs batted in on 26 total hits.

Sophomore Abby Zaruba receives a second-team nod at pitcher after allowing a 3.96 earned-run average and piling up 59 strikeouts in 53 innings of work, as well as batting .419 with 13 RBI.

Kayleigh Rundlett hit .288 with three doubles, one triple and one home run while driving in 14 runs for the Lions on her way to second-team honors, while fellow senior Rylee Shield makes the second team after batting .333, scoring 19 times and collecting 16 steals.

Honorable mentions go to senior Cate Sexton and eighth-grader Adi Parizek, who both hit better than .280 and scored double-digit runs. Head coach Jovonte Squiers is also named the Co-Coach of the Year in the Super Conference North after guiding Lone Tree to a 15-8 record, including a 10-4 mark in conference play.
