The Highland Huskies are heading to the state softball tournament after they defeated Iowa Valley 6-2 last night in the Class 1A Region 4 finals. Highland took the initial lead with a run in the second inning and scored again in the fourth frame.
When Iowa Valley rallied to tie the game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, the Huskies answered with two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to put the Tigers away.
An eighth straight win raises Highland’s record to 17-9 and sends the Huskies to state for the first time since 2014. Highland will compete in the Class 1A state tournament next week in Fort Dodge.
