A popular tree planting grant opportunity for youth from the Iowa DNR is accepting applications. 

The Trees for Kids grant program is accepting applications through August 22nd to plant trees in public areas of communities such as parks, community centers, and public schools this fall.

Grantees can be awarded up to $2,500 to purchase trees and mulch. Youth are required to be engaged in the process, most often helping to plant the trees on site. Trees for Kids grants provides reimbursable grants to buy trees and mulch to help increase and diversify tree canopy.

A total of $50,000 in funds are available. Grant funding is competitive, non-match, and awarded in amounts of up to $2,500 per project. The application deadline is 4 p.m., Friday, August 22nd. The grant application and supplemental materials must be submitted electronically. Last year, the City of Kalona was awarded a grant.
