The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team finished the regular season last Monday with a split on the road against West Burlington Notre Dame. Game one went to the Falcons 11-7. The Hawks scored five in the second to build an early lead, but Notre Dame’s offense heated up with four in the third and a seven spot in the fourth to take the lead for good at 11-5. The Golden Hawks scored twice in the fifth but would get no closer.
The nightcap was a 10-8 Golden Hawk victory, snapping a 12-game losing streak. Mid-Prairie again started quickly, scoring three in their first at-bat. The Falcons countered with two in the bottom half and another in the third to tie the game at three. The Hawks ramped up the offense with six in the fourth, and West Burlington got five of those back in the bottom half. Up 9-8, Mid-Prairie got an insurance run in the fifth and made that stand up the rest of the way.
The split left the Golden Hawks with a 7-21 record to end the regular season.
