The Washington Demons started the softball playoffs with a statement win, defeating Midland 22-0 last night in the Class 3A Region 5 quarterfinals. Washington was on a roll right from the start, scoring 10 runs in the first inning alone and never slowing down on their way to ending the game after four frames.
Ella Greiner led a big night for the Demon lineup with two doubles, three total hits, four runs scored and five runs batted in. Fellow senior Alyvia Anderson also stroked a double and picked up three RBI on two hits, while freshman Makenzie Messer drove in a pair and scored twice as part of her two-hit night.
Reagan Miller added a two-run single and scored three times, while fellow freshman Natalie Hartman had one run batted in and two runs scored on one hit. Sophomore Colbie Greiner had just one hit but scored four runs and two RBI.
Bella Salazar and Halle Cuddeback combined for three runs driven in despite just one total hit, and the seniors also pitched all four innings for Washington, allowing just two hits and two walks while also racking up eight strikeouts.
An eighth victory in the last 11 games raises the record to 27-8 for the Demons, ranked ninth in the state in Class 3A. Washington now moves onto tomorrow evening’s Region 5 semifinals, where they will host Central Lee.
