The Washington County Board of Supervisors approved the homestead credits presented by the Washington County Accessors Office at their Tuesday meeting.
Christina Loeffler with the County Accessors Office shared this year’s statistics about County homesteads with the Supervisors, “We have the regular homestead credits, 65 plus, and military exemptions that need to be approved. This year we had 252 new homesteads, and that could include, they sold a house, built a new house. Sixty-five plus homesteads we had 156 new ones and the military is 29. For our total homesteads now, we are up to 5,721 in the county.”
The homestead credit is a property tax credit for residents of the state of Iowa who own and occupy their homestead on July 1 and for at least six months of the calendar year. Any property owner in the State of Iowa who lives on the property can receive a homestead tax credit.
