After a walk-off win on Wednesday, the South Iowa Cedar League champion Sigourney Savages (18-7) are set to take on their biggest obstacle to defending their state title on Friday when they take on the No. 1 Wayne Falcons (23-2) on AM 1380, FM 102.5, the KCII2 App and KCIIradio.com.

Sigourney senior pitcher Josephine Moore collected 15 strikeouts, including 9 in a row, in an eight-inning shutout performance Wednesday night to propel the Savages into Friday’s regional semifinal. Wayne, on the other hand, cruised to a 9-1 victory over Moravia on Wednesday to set up the other half of the matchup.

Moore leads the way on both sides of the ball for Sigourney. The senior entered the postseason fourth in class 1A with nine  home runs, third with a 1.106 slugging percentage, second with a .143 opponent batting average, and fifth with a 1.36 ERA.

Setting up Moore, senior Dani Aller and freshman Ella Bruns have had solid years at the plate, leading the way with a .430 and a .448 OBP, respectively. Freshman Devyn Smallwood has helped Moore cash those baserunners in, collecting four home runs on the season.

Moore was intentionally walked four times on Wednesday against Keota, a strategy head coach Shelley Striegle says she expects to return throughout the postseason, “She didn’t get a chance to swing the bat tonight, but I have a feeling that’s going to be what’s happening in the postseason. If she’s in a position where she could put us ahead, she’s not going to get a chance.”

For the Falcons, ace senior Izzie Moore leads their defense in the circle. She’s delivered 214 strikeouts on a 1.21 ERA and a 0.79 WHIP on her way to a perfect 18-0 record in 2025.

At the plate, Moore is joined by fellow senior Ava Whitney as the engines of the Wayne offense. Both have launched six home runs while maintaining OBPs over .500 throughout the season, providing a powerful one-two punch at the top of the Falcons’ order.

Wayne owns the all-time series 2-0, the most recent game coming in 2022 when the Falcons won a 1-0 pitchers’ duel.

The KCII Area Game of the Week Pregame Show will begin on AM 1380, FM 102.5, the KCII2 App and KCIIradio.com. at 6:30 p.m., with first pitch scheduled for 7 live from the George Saling Athletic Complex in Corydon.
