It’s tournament time for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team Thursday when they start Class 3A regionals with a trip to Roland-Story. The Golden Hawks are 7-21 overall, finishing 3-7, fifth in the River Valley Conference South Division. The Hawks split a doubleheader at West Burlington Notre Dame Monday, scoring a 10-8 win and falling 11-7. On the year, Mid-Prairie hits .266 as a team with a .359OBP and .345 slug, 126 runs, 174 hits, 105RBI, 78 walks and 126 strikeouts. Two Golden Hawks hit .300 or better led by Sophie Miller’s .456 with 36 hits and 20 RBI. Kadence Grout is at .321 and Claire Trimpe has scored 22 runs. In the circle, Grout and Alena Snider each have three wins with an 8.60ERA, 2.20WHIP, .339 opponent average, 236 hits, 171 earned runs, 84 walks and 58 strikeouts.

Roland-Story is 11-15 this year, 7-6, fifth in the Heart of Iowa Conference. They have dropped three in a row with losses to Ballard, No. 2 Clarksville and No. 4 PCM by a combined 28-8 score. The Norsemen hit .320 as a team with a .397OBP, .429 slug, 145 runs, 203 hits, 124RBI, 72 walks and 156 strikeouts. They have five batters at .300 or better led by Peyton Jeter’s .487 with 38 hits. She and Keely Oberender have each driven in 22 and Brookelyn Jondle has scored 18 times. In the circle, Miley Geise has worked 110 innings, twice as much as the rest of the staff, with a 4.49ERA, 11-10 record, .253 opponent average, 122 hits, 69 earned runs, 44 walks and 94 strikeouts. This week, Golden Hawk head coach Danielle Williams broke down the keys to postseason success for the Hawks.

Williams said, “Our focus going against Roland-Story is to play our part on the defensive side to minimize errors. Make sure that we’re making the easy plays. When I look at their offensive stats, we are pretty comparable. Our pitching staff numbers are also comparable. It’s going to be a good game.”
