
Sometimes it’s just not your day. That’s exactly what happened to the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team Thursday at Carr, Vincent, Gould Field in Kalona when they hosted the Eddyville-Blakesburg Rockets. The visitors recorded a 24-5 win. EBF sent 16 hitters to the plate in the first, scoring 10 times on seven hits and a pair of Mid-Prairie errors. The Golden Hawks responded with three runs in the bottom half to get back within seven. The Rockets rolled through 16 more batters in the second, putting up a dozen runs on 14 hits to grow the advantage to 22-3. Each team would score twice in the fourth as the game drew to a close early.
The Rockets out hit the Hawks 26-7 in total. All nine in the Eddyville-Blakesburg order had multiple hits and scored a run. Seven of the nine drove in multiple runs. Mid-Prairie was led by a perfect night for Sophie Miller with three hits, two RBI, a run scored and an outfield assist. Kyla Karnes and Elise Foster each had an RBI, Claire Trimpe scored twice. Lanie Batterson recorded the win in the circle for EBF, giving up seven hits, two earned runs and striking out three. Kadence Grout had the loss for Mid-Prairie in one and a third with 10 hits, 11 earned runs and a K. The Hawks enter the postseason Thursday at Roland-Story with a 6-20 record, the Rockets are 11-19.
