The entire KCII area remains abnormally dry, but conditions continue to improve across the rest of Iowa, according to the latest data from the U.S. Drought Monitor.
For the fourth consecutive week, 100% of Washington, Johnson, Keokuk, Louisa, Henry, Jefferson and Iowa counties are abnormally dry.
Over half of the Hawkeye State is now drought-free, as the percentage of the state affected by drought decreased from 55% to 43%. The level of moderate drought has also continued to drop, with less than 5% of the state now in a moderate drought.
At this time last year, none of Iowa was in moderate drought and just 13% of the state was abnormally dry.
