
A woman is dead and a man is in critical condition following a shooting in Muscatine.
According to the Muscatine Police Department, at approximately 2:01 p.m. on Monday, emergency officials received multiple reports of shots fired at the Hy-Vee location in Muscatine.
The victim was identified as 37-year-old Kalista Hallberg of Letts. She was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities identified the suspect as Ian Antonio Hernandez of Davenport. He fled the scene in a red Chrysler minivan. When officers located the vehicle, they found Hernandez with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The officers provided Hernandez with medical aid until the arrival of the Muscatine Fire Department, which transported Hernandez to UnityPoint Health-Trinity Hospital in Muscatine. He was then transported by air-care to the University of Iowa Hospital. Hernandez remains in critical condition.
According to the Muscatine Police Department, preliminary investigations suggest the incident was triggered by an ongoing domestic dispute between Hallberg and Hernandez.
The Muscatine Police Department was assisted by the Muscatine Fire Department, the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Department, and the Iowa State Patrol.
The investigation is ongoing.
