Two longtime rivals get together Wednesday in Washington to write the next chapter in their series when the Washington Demons entertain the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks.
Washington comes into the game with a 4-17 overall record, 3-12 in the Southeast Conference, looking to snap an eight game skid after a sweep at the hands of Fort Madison on the road Monday 10-5 and 11-1. On the year, Washington is hitting .240 as a team with a .352OBP, and .283 slug with 103 runs, 117 hits, 77RBI, 65 walks and 106 strikeouts. Three Demons are at .300 or better, led by Conner Leyden’s .364 average. Nate Edmonds leads with 17 runs scored, Mitchell Zieglowsky has a team best 17 hits and Boden Brown a team-leading 11RBI. On the mound, the Washington staff ERA is 6.25 with a 2.06WHIP, .229 opponent average 169 hits, 117 earned runs, 101 walks and 116 strikeouts. Leyden is a multi-game winner and Julian Parsons has a team best 3.42ERA. This week, head coach TJ Rausch joined KCII Sports to talk about his team’s play down the stretch.
Rausch said, “Our pitchers are throwing well. We found some offense at the tournament last week in Waterloo, we need to keep that going. Our boys know that we can do it. Now we have to put all seven innings of good baseball together. It doesn’t need to be spectacular. Just routine.”
Mid-Prairie is 15-12 on the year and 11-7 in the River Valley after a 10-5 win over No. 8 Iowa City Regina Tuesday. On the season, the Hawks are at .273 as a group at the plate with a .395OBP and .352 slug, 164 runs, 197 hits, 132RBI, 117 walks and 143 strikeouts. Two Hawks are .300 or better, led by Tatem Telfer at .355 with 21RBI. Brooks Weber has team highs with 29 hits and 22 runs scored. On the mound, the Mid-Prairie team ERA is 3.70 with a 1.60WHIP, .253 opponent average, 182 hits, 96 earned runs, 109 walks and 215 strikeouts. Telfer, and Brooks and Brady Weber are a combined 13-3 with a 2.40ERA. Golden Hawk head coach Kyle Mullet talked with KCII Sports about what he has seen from his team in the home stretch.
Mullet said, “We’re proud of the way our guys have been competing. I really like where our team is going. We’re right where we want to be heading into the postseason. We just need to stay locked in and keep getting after it.”
These teams have split their last six meetings, with Mid-Prairie winning three straight, including 11-0 last year in Wellman.
