One person died in a car wreck on Highway 218 north of Mt. Pleasant Wednesday. At 1 p.m. Wednesday authorities received a report of the two-vehicle wreck.

According to officials, a 2025 Honda Civic was travelling in the southbound lane when for an unknown reason they crossed the median and struck a freight semi which was travelling northbound near Hickory Grove Cemetery. The semi came to rest across both northbound lanes after the wreck. Traffic was detoured around the scene on gravel roads. 

The name of the deceased has been withheld pending notification of the family. The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by multiple agencies at the scene. 

The crash remains under investigation
