The Sigourney Savages are the champions of South Iowa Cedar League baseball in 2025 after they secured a pair of wins yesterday. Sigourney completed a postponed game with Iowa Valley yesterday afternoon and got a 12-5 victory before taking on HLV and winning 18-1 later that night.

The Savages jumped out to a 3-0 lead against Iowa Valley after one inning when the teams initially played last Monday night, but Iowa Valley tied the game with three runs of their own in the fourth and would take a 5-3 lead in the fifth.

Sigourney would respond with two runs to tie things back up in the sixth by the time that the game was paused last week due to bad weather, and they wasted no time seizing control when they returned to Marengo yesterday, scoring seven times in the seventh to finish off the win.

Against HLV, the Savages once again got off to a strong start, scoring six runs in the first frame and another eight in the second on their way to ending the game after four innings.

The wins raise Sigourney’s overall record to 21-1, and the Savages, ranked second in the state in Class 1A, finish conference play with a perfect 16-0 record.

Sigourney softball would also lock up a conference championship with an 11-2 victory over HLV/Tri-County. Five runs by the Savages in the second inning broke up a tie game on their way to ending the contest after five frames.

Senior Josephine Moore led the Sigourney lineup by hitting her ninth home run of the season and finishing the game with two total hits, three runs scored and three runs batted in.

Freshman Ella Bruns had a team-high three hits for the Savages, while senior Dani Aller scored three runs and drove in a pair. Eighth-grader Kinsley Clubb added one RBI on one hit and scored twice.

Moore allowed no earned runs on just one hit and racked up eight strikeouts while pitching a complete game to help the Savages improve to 16-6. Finishing 15-1 in the SICL also means a fifth straight conference crown for Sigourney.
