A motorcyclist collided with a deer on Highway 22 near Wellman. According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, at 7:56 p.m. Friday emergency officials were notified of the wreck with one person injured on Highway 22, near Cedar Avenue. The wreck happened about four miles west of Wellman.

The operator of the motorcycle was a man from Kalona. Authorities state, a deer entered the roadway and struck the motorcycle on the front right side. He was not wearing a helmet and was thrown from the motorcycle. He was taken by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospital.

Agencies that assisted at the scene included the Wellman Fire Department, Washington County Ambulance, Wellman Rescue, Wellman QRS, and Bulltown Towing. 

The 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle was totaled.
