The Highland Huskies topped conference rival Louisa-Muscatine on the baseball diamond Friday night 8-4. Despite trailing early, Highland scored six times in the third inning to go in front 6-1, and while the Falcons would score three times in the bottom of the inning, the Huskies would never give the lead back.

Junior Bryce Hazelett led the Highland lineup with three hits, including a double, and three runs batted in. Sophomore Hunter Seibel came up with a pair of hits and two RBI, while senior Logan McFarland stroked a double and scored twice on two total knocks.

Senior William Dunbar and sophomore Landon Roling each added one hit, one run scored and one driven in, while Hazelett was both the starting and the winning pitcher, allowing no earned runs on one hit and two walks while also racking up eight strikeouts in a complete-game effort.

The victory raises the Huskies’ record to 7-3 in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference and 10-7 overall, with their next game coming this evening against Pekin.

WACO Warrior softball would not have the same good luck, dropping their final three games of the past week. That included a 12-0 defeat Friday at the hands of Pekin, allowing eight runs in the third inning. WACO fell behind 13-0 against Iowa Valley before they could crack the scoreboard and suffered a 15-5 loss in their first game Saturday.

The Warriors would grab the initial lead in Game Two against Colo-Nesco, but they would not be able to come out on top in a close 5-4 game. WACO is still winless this season as they prepare to take on Wapello tonight.
