With recent hot conditions, Alliant Energy has shared some tips on how customers can reduce their energy use that can help with their overall energy bills.
Alliant Energy outlines some ways people can reduce their energy consumption while staying cool. Close the shades on your windows to keep the sun from warming rooms. This can keep the space cooler and prevent the air conditioning from needing to turn on. People can also take cooler showers, wash clothes in cold water, and adjust the water heater setting to 120 degrees to reduce energy use.
When it comes to the setting on your thermostat, Alliant Energy suggests people consider setting it to 78 degrees during the day and higher overnight or when you’re away from home.
People should also take steps to ensure air conditioning units are taken care of properly. Clean or change air filters so air can move through easier while using less energy. And have a professional tune up units for optimal performance.
