One of three men arrested following an altercation on the Iowa City Pedestrian Mall last December has been sentenced to five years of probation.

According to court documents, three men were arrested and each was charged with willful injury causing bodily injury and participating in a riot, class D felonies. The men were Landan Provino and Ryan Maschmann of Wayland, and Jared Reed of Crawfordsville.

A witness told authorities an altercation occurred in a bar in downtown Iowa City and then continued outside where the victim was allegedly held by one man while the others punched and kicked him. The victim was treated for multiple injuries including a broken nose and a laceration on the head. The victim was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Maschmann filed a negotiated voluntary plea of guilty. On June 19th, he was sentenced to five years of prison with that suspended, and five years of supervised probation.

Provino had originally filed a not guilty plea in March and in May filed a waiver and plead guilty. A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for August 14th.

Reed has a case management conference scheduled for July 7th after pleading not guilty in May.

Court documents outline that the Crime Victim Compensation Program has made payments of $31,000 and that the three defendants will pay $31,000 in restitution.
