
Southeast Iowa’s soil moisture levels are drier now than the overall state figures currently. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture National Agricultural Statistics Service, southeast Iowa’s topsoil moisture is currently rated at 70% adequate, 19% short and 8% very short. Overall, Iowa’s topsoil moisture is 8% surplus, 73% adequate, 16% short, and 3% very short. Meanwhile at this time last year, the state was rated at 17% surplus, 74% adequate, and 9% short to very short.
In regards to subsoil moisture conditions, southeast Iowa is currently experiencing conditions of 57% adequate and 39% short. Statewide subsoil moisture conditions are 65% adequate, 21% short and 6% very short.
Last week, the statewide precipitation average was 1.82 inches.
