The Washington Demon softball team remained unbeaten in conference play and secured at least a share of the league title last night by sweeping a doubleheader at Mount Pleasant.

Washington won Game One 19-5, racing out to a 13-1 lead in the first two innings before ending the game after four frames, and they would cruise to an 8-0 victory in the second game to sweep the doubleheader and the season series.

The wins raise the Demons’ record to 19-6 overall and a perfect 11-0 in the Southeast Conference, guaranteeing Washington at least part of a conference title for the first time since 2018.

Demon baseball would have the opposite results, falling in both games at Mount Pleasant. Washington trailed 5-0 through the first two innings of the opener, and even after they scored four times in the top of the third to get back within a run, the Panthers countered with seven runs in the bottom half on their way to a 14-4 win.

Senior Nate Edmonds and sophomores Blayze Richardson and Boden Brown each had two hits and one run scored in Game One. The Demons would fall behind again in the second half of the doubleheader, trailing by 11 runs before they got on the scoreboard but still suffering another five-inning loss, this time by a final of 13-3.

Eighth-grader Easton Rugg had the team’s lone hit in Game Two as Washington falls to 2-9 in conference play and 4-12 in total. Demon baseball returns to the diamond Thursday evening against Fairfield.

Meanwhile, Washington softball plays again tomorrow night against Central Lee, a game you can hear on KCII starting with pregame coverage at 6:30 on 106.1 FM and streaming on KCIIradio.com and the KCII1 app.
