
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk softball team dropped a River Valley Conference contest 9-4 to No. 3 in Class 2A Durant in Kalona Monday. Things were scoreless until the third, when the Wildcats sent seven to plate and scored three times, the big blow, a two-run homer from Mazie Timmerman. The Hawks got on the board with a run in the fourth when Sophia Puttman drove in Sophie Miller. Momentum continued for Mid-Prairie in the fifth, as they batted through the order, scoring three times to pull within 5-4, with Elise Foster, Isabelle Litwiller and Braelee Yoder all racing around to score. Foster, Miller and Puttman had hits in the frame and Foster an RBI. That was as close as the Hawks would get, with the Wildcats scoring four big insurance runs in the top of the seventh to finish the win.
Durant out hit Mid-Prairie 12-7 in total. The Hawks drew three walks and issued none. Miller, Puttman and Foster all had two hit nights, Foster and Puttmann an RBI each. Foster, Miller, Litwiller and Yoder all scored a run. Kadence Grout took the loss in the circle going all seven frames with 12 hits, four earned runs and a strikeout. Mid-Prairie dropped to 6-10 with the loss. They travel to Grinnell tonight. The game also served as Cancer Awareness night and a remembrance for Jared Miller who passed away last June. The Miller family and Jared’s memory were honored on the field pregame.
