The Columbus Wildcats got the job done in a pair of softball games Saturday at the Cardinal Tournament in Eldon. Columbus defeated hosting Cardinal 8-5 in their first game, rallying from an early 4-0 deficit with two runs in the fourth inning and three in the fifth to take a lead they would not give back.

Senior Lily Coil clubbed two doubles as a part of a team-best three-hit game for the Wildcats and joined sophomore Ellie Sanders in having one run scored and one run batted in. Junior Daniela Diaz also hit a double and scored twice, coming up with two RBI on two hits.

Junior Kennedy Woepking mixed in a double and drove in a pair of runs while doing the catching for Coil, who pitched a complete game and allowed just two earned runs on seven hits and three walks and racked up 11 strikeouts.

Columbus cruised to a 14-1 victory over Keokuk in Game Two, building on a 3-0 advantage with seven runs in the third frame and ending the game after four innings. Coil came a home run shy of the cycle with three knocks and three runs batted in, while Sanders managed to collect five RBI and scored twice on two hits.

Woepking and eighth-grader Jacqueline Farrier each finished with two hits and combined to score three times and drive in three runs. Sophomore Iris Garza added two hits and two runs scored, while junior Jessica Del Rio crossed home plate three times.

Four no-hit innings pitched by Coil would lead the Wildcats to improving their record to 10-8. Columbus next plays tomorrow night at Hillcrest Academy.
