
The Highland Huskies would suffer a pair of losses on the diamond last night at Central Lee. Highland baseball would fall to Central Lee 14-4, and while the Huskies took the initial lead with a run in the second inning, they would trail most of the way.
Highland managed to tie the game at 4 after scoring three times in the top of the sixth, but Central Lee exploded in the bottom half of the inning with 10 runs to seize control. The loss drops the Huskies to 8-4.
Highland softball also was first to go in front by scoring twice in the top of the first, but Central Lee responded with four runs in the next half-inning.
After the Huskies tied the game in the second and took the lead in the top of the third, the Hawks scored six times over the next two frames to pull away, and they would win it by a final of 12-5.
Kinzie Ruess led the Highland lineup with three hits, while fellow eighth-grader Sienna Bell and freshman Maiya Singbeil each had a base hit and two runs batted in.
Eighth-grader Ella Schlabaugh would hit a home run, while senior Lilly Barre and freshman Kamryn Fink each added a hit and two runs scored as the Huskies fall to 5-6.
While baseball is off tonight and does not play again until Monday against Hillcrest Academy, Highland softball will be back in action this evening at Columbus.
