The Highland and WACO Community School Districts are preparing to transition from current shared superintendent Ken Crawford to Spencer Lueders. Lueders has most recently served as the 4th-6th grade intermediate principal at Central Dewitt Community School District.
The transition will officially take place on July 1, as Crawford retires. Lueders has already attended school board meetings with Highland to prepare himself for the transition, “Before I got the job, I was already looking through board minutes and board agendas. It’s really important for me to get down there and see how things currently function. I want to make the transition as smooth as possible.”
Reflecting on his career,Crawford shares what he’ll miss, “Educators are good people, kids are great kids. WACO kids and Highland kids are great kids, I can’t say enough about how they act in the hallways, how they act in the classrooms, the sports, the fine arts, both communities should be very, very proud of the kids they have.”
Crawford’s final official board meeting with Highland was on June 9, but the board will have a retreat and work session on June 23 at the Riverside Fire Station. His final WACO board meeting was on June 16.
