
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball and softball teams are both on the diamond today to wrap up the week. Mid-Prairie softball is on their way to the Fort Dodge Invitational. The Hawks are 5-6 on the year and 3-3 in the River Valley Conference after an 8-5 win over No. 11 Wilton in Kalona Thursday. This year, the Hawks hit .300 as a lineup, with a .401OBP and .392 slug with 74 runs, 85 hits, 63RBI, 42 walks and 49 strikeouts. Three Hawks are .400 or better led by Kadence Grout at .457 with 16 total hits and 14 driven in. Claire Trimpe’s 13 runs scored are best. In the circle, Grout, Alena Snider and Naomi Wadsworth have a combined 7.31ERA, 2.27WHIP, .316 opponent average with 91 hits, 63 earned runs, 46 walks and 28 strikeouts.
Mid-Prairie will open their time in Fort Dodge against rival Williamsburg who enters with a 16-3 overall record and 13-1 mark to lead the WAMAC-West. They split a doubleheader with Mt. Vernon last time out. The Raiders are ranked No. 2 in Class 3A in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. They hit .409 as a team with a .475OBP, and .573 slug, 169 runs on 184 hits, 144RBI, 60 walks and 42 strikeouts. Jersey Metz leads at .488, Alley Gorsh has 23 hits and 22RBI and Makenna Hughes has scored 23 runs. Mid-Prairie has won five of the last seven in the series but it was the Raiders with a 7-1 victory in their last meeting in 2023. The Golden Hawk baseball team also takes on top flight competition Friday when they host Class 4A Bettendorf in Wellman. Mid-Prairie is 12-6 on the year after sweeping a three-game conference set from No. 15 Wilton this week, 4-1, 5-0 and 4-3. On the year, the Hawks hit .285 together with a .407OBP and .386 slug, scoring 115 runs on 130 hits, 95RBI, 77 walks and 94 strikeouts. Individually, three Hawks are .300 or better led by Tatem Telfer’s .429 average with 19RBI. Brooks Weber has 22 total hits and 15 runs scored. On the mound, the Mid-Prairie team ERA is 2.59 with a 1.35WHIP, .198 opponent average with 84 hits, 42 earned runs, 69 walks, and 144 strikeouts. Brady Weber and Telfer are a combined 7-0 with a 0.78ERA.
Bettendorf is 13-6 this year and 5-3 in the Mississippi Athletic Conference after a 15-0 win over Western Dubuque Thursday. The Bulldogs hit .266 as a team with a .403OBP and .370 slug, 168 runs, 154 hits, 140RBI, 94 walks and 113 strikeouts. Three Bulldogs are .400 or better led by Wrigley Matthys at .551 with 38 hits, 38 runs and 31RBI. Bettendorf has a 2.28 staff ERA with a 1.30WHIP, .192 opponent average, 132 hits, 46 earned runs, 52 walks and 132 strikeouts. Kaden Kelly is 5-0 with a 2.60ERA.
