Hot and humid conditions are expected across the region this weekend, arriving with the official start of summer. According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, an excessive heat watch is in effect for the entire KCII-listening area from Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening. As the heat wave moves into the area, dangerous heat index values could reach 105 through Tuesday.
During such conditions, people are reminded to drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun, check on relatives and neighbors, and stay in air-conditioned rooms. Limit outdoor activities, and if needed conduct outside activities in the early morning or very late in the day when temperatures are cooler.
Do not leave pets or young children unattended in vehicles, as the interiors of vehicles can reach lethal temperatures in minutes.
In addition, there is a potential risk for thunderstorms starting Sunday night. Listen to KCII for weather updates.
