Local actors will be taking the stage in Washington this weekend for a musical comedy, The Drowsy Chaperone. When a die-hard theater fan plays his favorite cast album, the hilarious characters come to life in this Tony Award-winning musical, full of show-stopping numbers and riotous comedy.
Washington Community Theater Director Don Hughes shares some information about what the audience can expect, “It’s not an incredibly well-known musical. It is a very fun musical. It’s a little hard to explain; it’s sort of a show within a show within a show. It’s really for anyone, there’s a lot of, well, let me rephrase that, this is not for kids, this is not a kids’ show. There’s a lot of innuendo, a lot of drinking jokes, but the chaperone is not drowsy; she just drinks all through the show. But if you’ve never seen a musical before, I think you will like it. It’s relatively short, it’s about an hour and a half to an hour and forty-five, no intermission, one act. Boom. Done.”
Tickets for this show at the Washington Community Center are available online, and cost $20 for adults and $15 for students. This show is rated PG-13 due to the presence of alcohol-related humor and some adult-themed comments. Performances will take place this Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. as well as Friday the 27th, Saturday the 28th, and the final performance will be Sunday the 29th.
